Tomb Watch 2026
There is a beautiful Orthodox tradition of “watching the tomb” following the Matins of Holy Friday and continuing into Holy Saturday (pausing during the Liturgy), concluding just before the Paschal services begin. During this time, parishioners take turns keeping vigil at the Epitaphios, the cloth icon of Christ prepared for burial and placed in the tomb. This quiet watch is not just symbolic. It is a prayerful participation in the mystery of Christ’s death, a time to stand with Him in stillness, grief, and hope, as we await the joy of His Resurrection. Many use this time to read the Psalms, pray, or simply sit in silence before the Lord. If you are able, we invite you to sign up for a time slot and take part in this sacred vigil. Even a single hour is a meaningful offering to Christ. Time slots are organized in one-hour increments. If you would like to stay longer, you are free to sign up for multiple hours, but please allow others to sign up for slots as well.
